Thirty-five tourism companies and services in Sitges have already self-assessed through the PROA platform (Tourist Accessibility Program), a free digital tool promoted by the Tourism Department of the Sitges City Council that allows tourist facilities, establishments and services in the municipality, both public and private, to analyze their level of accessibility.

This figure highlights the growing commitment of the local tourism sector to a more inclusive, accessible and competitive destination model. The Councillor for Tourism, Xavier Ripoll, emphasizes that “accessibility is a key element in guaranteeing quality tourism and strengthening the destination’s competitiveness. PROA’s growth demonstrates the sector’s involvement and shared commitment to making Sitges a destination open to everyone.”

The PROA platform targets a wide range of tourist resources and services, including hotels, apartments, campsites and holiday homes (HUTs); restaurants, shops and transport services such as taxis; museums, cultural heritage, historical centers and tourist offices; as well as beaches, bathing areas, routes and indoor and outdoor activities. Recently, new categories linked to professional tourism have also been incorporated, such as congress centers and exhibition centers, meeting spaces and unique spaces for events.

Establishments can analyze their level of accessibility in six areas: visual, auditory, reduced mobility, wheelchair, family needs and cognitive accessibility, and receive personalized recommendations to advance in the continuous improvement of the user experience.

In parallel, the PROA software will be integrated into the new Sitges Anytime tourism website, currently under development, which will allow for greater visibility of the municipality’s resources that are part of the platform. The new website project is being developed with funding from the European Next Generation EU funds, within the framework of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination.

Municipal support for tourism resources
The Tourism Department offers personalized support to all companies and entities that wish to join the platform. The PROA system is part of the Tourism for All strategy and helps to position Sitges as a leading destination in accessibility, inclusion and social responsibility.
