Sitges pursues sustainability through its status as a Biosphere destination. This internationally recognised certification, endorsed by the World Tourism Organisation, is awarded to destinations that manage their development responsibly and in line with the 2030 Agenda and the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. This destination management model integrates environmental, social, economic, cultural and governance aspects across the board.

2016
Sitges joins the Biosphere network, launching a cross-cutting sustainable management model.
2017-2021
The destination’s commitment to sustainability is reinforced through the involvement of local companies, services and resources.
2023
Sitges earns the Biosphere Gold certification, which recognises the joint involvement of the public and private sectors. The Sitges Centre tourist information office joins the sustainability commitment.
2024
Gold certification is renewed, validating compliance with the SDG-based model and continuous improvement. In addition, the Sitges Convention Bureau and the Can Milà Visitor Centre join the sustainability commitment.

Sitges has firmly established itself as a leading destination for sustainability, with a comprehensive tourism strategy.
